Good/Bad

October 9th, 2020 at 02:44 am

We continue to tackle our mortgage hoping to pay it off soon. We are now a little under $95K from $247K. It is hard to stay focus since we recast our loan and the payment is very low now. I'm seriously considering working until June and stepping down from my position. I left in 2019 to a lesser paying position (about 70% less). My life that year was so nice. I was then offered a teaching job for 2020-2021 and I accepted to give it one last shot. It's not working out for me; still very stressful and I've been experiencing headaches, lack of sleep, emotional eating, etc. I can't allow this to happen again.

Would it be financially possible for you to step down? I'm sure this is a very hard situation and decision, but your health is at risk. Take care.

Money isn't everything. I have never been happier since I fully retired. I don't even try to chase little side hustles anymore. It is more efficient and more joyful to make little economies at home and to appreciate what I have.

Financially speaking, we will be fine with my husband's income. I will supplement with a part-time job (to be able to save and continue to fund my Roth IRA). I have opted to work until the end of the year more so for the students. I am a world language teacher and hard to find a replacement and leaving will be a detriment for my students. Part of it is my fault; I am extremely hard on myself and remote teaching/learning has been quite challenging.

I'm so sorry that your teaching job is so stressful. Personally, I felt education was getting way too stressful the last decade or so and those who are having to struggle with either full remote or hybrid are feeling the pinch. You are a good person to finish the year, but be kind to yourself and try to do things to relieve your stress level.
