Home renovations

We are officially installing central AC in our house. We have talked about this since we bought the house in 2014. The cost? $10K I'm not sure if this will enhance the resale value of our house and honestly I don't really care. This is our forever home (I hope) and we just want to be comfortable during the summer months. We expect to spend about $20K this summer in home projects but we've saved and will be paying cash for all of it. The last time we did major renovations to our home was in 2015. That was for two bathrooms and a second floor laundry. We are getting estimates for our porch deck repair tomorrow.

    It has been so humid here in Maryland the past few days it would have been really uncomfortable without central AC. Definitely worth the investment!

    I agree that home renovations can be well worth it even if they don't increase the resale value, assuming that you'll be in the house for a while. I've never once regretted the cost of our deck. It's like a mini vacation when I spend time on it which I do all summer long.

    Check the efficiency on the A/C unit. Spending a little more now can keep your monthly bills lower for years.

    I know I would be more likely to purchase a home with central air than one that did not. So while the value may not be a financial gain, it could help win over a buyer of the home in comparison to another without central air.

    Good call on the a/c. If you plan to stay there, I say make it as enjoyable as ever. We have done the same thing with projects. We have probably updated the house more than the neighborhood allows, but we did it for our own pleasure.
